Equipment Selection

Beyond the Bar Screen: The Evolution of Pretreatment

From basic screening to engineered precision: equipment choices that protect downstream treatment.

Integrated pretreatment system with screening equipment

From basic screening to engineered precision—how pretreatment defines the reliability of wastewater plants.

Pretreatment is not just the first step in a treatment line. Modern plants face fluctuating inflows, fibrous waste, sand, oil and high suspended solids. These conditions can demand more than a conventional bar screen.

The Centrefilte® Series presents modular pretreatment solutions covering precision screening, sand removal and sludge handling. Adaptability, reliability and maintenance access are central to the equipment selection.

Screening options

  • Coarse screen (20–50 mm): Inward-flow type coarse screen.
  • Arc-shaped intercept basket: Impact-resistant screen structure for complex inflow conditions.
  • Internal screenings plate: Compact, high-strength structure for discharge.
  • Inward-flow coarse screen (20–50 mm): Self-sealing wire rope type bar screen.
  • Fine screen (5–10 mm): Variable-angle rotary perforated plate screen for fixed civil channel depths, to enhance unit flow capacity.
  • Inward-flow plate-type fine screen (1–5 mm).
  • Inward-flow super mesh screen: For large debris loads and high flows. The original article describes units designed for 200,000 m³/day or above; sizing is application-specific.

Grit, sludge and conveying equipment

  • Integrated vortex-type grit separator
  • Non-metallic chain-plate scraper, including double-layer arrangements
  • Bridge-type sand suction machine
  • Full-bridge and half-bridge sludge scraper
  • Integrated sand washing and separation unit
  • Floating screw conveyor
  • Horizontal sand-discharge screw conveyor

When pretreatment improves, downstream operation can become more stable and efficient.
