The practical question is: which DAF arrangement fits the project better? “Shallow” describes tank depth, while “rectangular” describes plan shape, so the terms do not by themselves define mutually exclusive technologies. Compare the actual proposed designs.
Equipment configurations
The shallow configuration was described with an external saturator, automatic backwash and modular transport. The rectangular configuration was described as an integrated steel or concrete arrangement. These describe the featured equipment, not specifications shared by every shallow or rectangular DAF.
Compare the same duty
- Design and peak flow, incoming solids and oil load, and required treated-water quality.
- Installed footprint and height, including pumps, dosing and operator access.
- Recycle and air-saturation equipment, skimming and sludge discharge.
- Cleaning, maintenance access, power demand and the scope included in each offer.
Avoid a universal winner
A compact arrangement can be attractive where space is restricted. A different layout may suit an existing building or operating team better. Neither the label nor the tank shape alone establishes separation performance.
