When Equipment Stops, Start with the Right Questions

Turn an urgent fault report into a clear technical discussion.

Equipment control cabinets

The equipment has stopped. Production is affected, the site team is under pressure, and the supplier asks for more information.

From the customer’s side, this can feel like another delay.

Yet replacing a component or changing a setting before understanding the problem can waste time—and sometimes introduce another fault.

The challenge is to turn an urgent, incomplete report into a clear technical discussion.

Describe the symptom before deciding the cause

“Not working” can mean very different things: no power, a protection trip, an unusual noise, reduced output or an unexpected process result.

A useful first report includes:

  • Equipment model and identification.
  • Alarm messages and the observed symptoms.
  • When the issue started and what happened immediately beforehand.
  • Relevant operating conditions.
  • Recent maintenance, adjustments or process changes.
  • Clear photographs or video, where safe to obtain.

Safety comes first. Equipment should be isolated as required before inspection, and electrical or mechanical work should be carried out by appropriately qualified personnel.

How G-LINK helps

We help organise the available information and coordinate the technical response with the relevant manufacturer or specialist.

We work to distinguish checks that can be safely carried out on site from issues requiring further assessment, replacement parts or specialist attendance.

We also follow the communication through: what has been checked, what the result was and what action comes next. If a part is needed, we help confirm its identification and supply arrangement.

Remote information has limits. Where the cause cannot be established reliably, the next step should be made clear rather than presented as a confident guess.

What this means for your team

You have a contact helping move the issue towards resolution, rather than repeatedly explaining it to different people.

Let’s discuss your project

Need to discuss an operating issue? Send the equipment details and a clear description of the symptoms so we can help identify the next step.
